Reflections,Lessons, and Setbacks: What Paraeducators Need Now

Session Abstract

This session will examine what we have learned regarding paraeducator employment, training and supervision in the past twenty five years. The presenter has spent 25 years supporting paraeducators, and has advocated the need for training, policy and supervision guidelines and state-wide initiatives and legislation. A summary of recent legal and ethical issues will be examined including the need for continued advocacy. The importance of training administrators and teachers will be emphasized. An assessment tool designed for districts to examine paraeducator issues will be distributed.
