To What Degree are Institutions of Higher Education Preparing Pre-Service Teachers to Supervise and Manage Paraeducators?: Preliminary Results of a National Survey


Session Abstract

The topic of managing and training paraeducators has shown to be lacking in teacher education pre-service programs (Chopra et al., 2011). Few teacher preparation programs offer meaningful coursework or guidance relative to supervising other adults (Carnahan et al., 2009). Through the preliminary results of a national survey, participants will gain insight into the current practices of IHE as it relates to preparing pre-service special education teacher to support and manage paraeducators in both inclusive and special education classrooms.
